Monday, August 9, 2010: THE MURAL GRIND CONTINUES. After heavy deliberation, it was decided amongst the Eighth Planet brain trust that we ditch a lilac/deep red/?? retaining wall backdrop for further island pastel-izing.

Thursday, August 5, 2010: First week of painting, and the Crew managed to island pastel-ize those Yorkdale underpass pillars, as well as gold paint out the retaining wall design. Recognize any of these images from the original design?

Wednesday, July 28, 2010: Apologies to our City of Toronto friends for not fully capturing them in their aviary excrement removal action, but we do have shots of Josh, Andy and Navardo working with our pressure wash friend in prepping the walls.

EXCLUSIVE: The Eighth Planet crew decided to leak an exclusive peak of the design for the Yorkdale underpass mural.
The mural will be split into two parts (south-east & south-west) reflecting the city property we’re working with: a long retaining wall and pillars (13!) split by Yorkdale’s TTC subway station entrance.
Expect in the coming days photos of our progress — we’ve got huge graphic stencils ready for the pillars, and as I type, the Eighth Planet crew is on site with drop sheet and paint cans and rollers hard at work! If you’re in the hood come say ‘hi!’.

GUEST ARTISTS OVERLOAD!
Last week, the Eighth Planet crew had the awesome opportunity of meeting two amazing artists! Early last week, we meet Clifton Joseph, a local dubb poet. He gave us some amazing insight on the history of the area we’re working in, and was a joy to listen to, with his great sense of humour! Check out some of his work at the toronto spoken word festival!
Later in the week, we trekked out to the Roncesvilles area, and met the well known and controversial Toronto street artist Dan Bergeron. He showed us the process he uses to create his work, shared the struggles and triumphs he’s experienced, and discussed what it takes to break into the industry. Check out his work that’s now featured at MOCCA.
